Based in the city of Los Angeles, Aisha is more than a vintage curator; she's a community builder, renowned for her Less Is More Markets where like-minded individuals come together to celebrate conscious consumption and sustainable living. Join us as we dive into Aisha's journey, her passion for vintage, and her vision for a more sustainable future.
When did you start Less Is More? I started Less Is More in 2020 during the height of the pandemic! It stemmed from being bored at home and needing something to fill my time with. I had some vintage sitting at home and always had the idea in the back of my mind to start a little vintage brand so figured why not. I never was planning to go full time with it and just thought of it as a little side hustle, but here we are 4 years later!
What or who inspired you to start your brand? I was lucky enough to have my parents introduce me to thrift stores at a very young age and teach me the importance of secondhand. Little me was surrounded by wanting what all the cool kids had in school and my parents told me I could get that for a quarter of the price at a thrift store. Ever since then I have loved being able to find quality one-of-a-kind pieces. I knew I wanted to be in fashion since I was young, but didn't want to contribute to the world of fast fashion, so I found myself in vintage.
What or who are you currently inspired by? I recently have been really inspired by fashion in movies. Whenever I'm watching a movie, typically older movies from the 90s or a movie based on older times, I am so mesmerized by their style and clothing. A lot of inspiration also comes from my travels, magazines, fashion icons and my peers!
Any advice for aspiring creatives? Be your authentic self. Try your best not to compare yourself to others, it can be really daunting. Be kind to others, this is super important to me! And of course, follow your dreams (cheesy, but true). If you are passionate about something and are confident in it, then do it. There's only so little time in this world to make an impact and to do what you love. Lastly, surround yourself with other like minded people who will support you and hold you accountable!
When you're not creating, what are you up to? Probably hanging with my pup Willie haha. I'm really bad at sitting still and being at home so I'm always out and about. Most likely hanging with my friends/ family, going to the beach, being outdoors, and eating lots of good food.
What is your dream trip where you feel you can gather the most creative inspiration from? Hmm, it is very hard to narrow it down to one place. As of now, one of the top places for inspiration would be to go back to my roots in Vietnam. I want to be more immersed in my culture and learn from them. I've never been before, but I would love to go with my family and see where I came from.
