Slowtide: Where are you from/where do you reside?
Hanna Scott: I was born, and grew up in Victoria, on Lekwungen/Songhees traditional territories. I've been living in Tofino for many years now, on Tla-o-qui-aht territory.
S: When/how did you get into art?
HS: I've been drawing and creating random things ever since I can remember. I don't really know why it started, I just liked it. Now it is the same, the process of making something makes me feel good, not the end product of it. I like the feeling of when I am immersed in some painting or making a song, and not thinking about anything else. Creating things seems to be one of the main times I experience that feeling, when I'm surfing I usually still think too much. S: How did you create this specific piece?
HS: I created this piece with my fingers haha. The inks dry super quick so it's always a race for me to move it around with my hands to get the colours how I want them before it all sets.
S: What inspires you?
HS: I'm inspired by people who are kind and honest. AND - doughnut sprinkles, learning, pink sunrise clouds, my friends and my family, and being in motion.
S: Has surfing influenced your art?
