We caught up with Jeremy to talk surfing, photography, life in Tofino, and this collaboration.
Slowtide: Where are you from and how did you get into photography?
Jeremy Koreski: I grew up in Tofino and spent most of my time as a kid in the waves or at the skatepark. When I was 14 my dad gave me his Canon AE1 and I started documenting friends at the skatepark and out at the local beaches. Back then it was all film…no insta anything…and I always looked forward to getting my film back. My favourite spot to shoot surf was Rosie Bay, back when there were no houses, only the odd campsite in the forest.
JK: The Technicolor Towel image was shot while on assignment photographing a friends lodge @fishthedean on the central coast of BC. The river water really is that color and is from glacial melt.
S: What is it like having a gallery in Tofino and being neighbors with Storm Surf Shop?
JK: Having the gallery next to Storm is a dream. I'd been looking for a location for a long time and after having coffee with Allister [Fernie] and pitching the idea, the concept grew from there. I owe a lot to Monte Clarke and Allister Fernie for helping make it happen!!!
S: Any advice to aspiring photographers?
JK: Yeah, shoot photos because you have fun doing it.
