Hanna Scott

Hanna Scott has many talents. Not only is she an amazing surfer, she’s an inspiring artist. Her ability on and off the board to use different mediums and boards to express herself is mesmerizing. We are lucky to call her a friend and honored to bring her art onto this new canvas. We asked Hanna a couple of questions about herself and the inspiration behind her limited edition quick-dry towel. Keep reading to learn more!

Slowtide: Where are you from/where do you reside?

Hanna Scott: I was born, and grew up in Victoria, on Lekwungen/Songhees traditional territories. I've been living in Tofino for many years now, on Tla-o-qui-aht territory.

S: When/how did you get into art?

HS: I've been drawing and creating random things ever since I can remember. I don't really know why it started, I just liked it. Now it is the same, the process of making something makes me feel good, not the end product of it. I like the feeling of when I am immersed in some painting or making a song, and not thinking about anything else. Creating things seems to be one of the main times I experience that feeling, when I'm surfing I usually still think too much. Hanna Scott artS: How did you create this specific piece?

HS: I created this piece with my fingers haha. The inks dry super quick so it's always a race for me to move it around with my hands to get the colours how I want them before it all sets.

S: What inspires you?

HS: I'm inspired by people who are kind and honest. AND - doughnut sprinkles, learning, pink sunrise clouds, my friends and my family, and being in motion.

S: Has surfing influenced your art?

HS: Sometimes I make art specifically for surf projects.  In that regard I would say surfing plays a role in my art.  However, it's definitely never anything to do with surfing that I'm making art about. Surfing seems to have been quite an outlet for my art to live alongside, which is funny to me. Hanna Scott towelClick here to shop Hanna's limited edition towel now!  We sold out of the towel in the USA so its only available on our Canada site and retail partners.
