Nestled between old-growth cedars, hanging on the edge of the shore in Tofino lies an extraordinary boutique oceanfront resort called the Shoreline. Originally built in the late 1960's our property & its architecture is the definition of surf cabin vibes. A rich natural landscape surrounds the property, which consists of an A-frame house and two A-frame cabins.
We are lucky to call one of the owners Bridget Reichart a friend and we had a recent chat about the Shoreline and Tofino.
The ocean, beaches, surfing, the community, and the slowness of "island time". I love it all - It is such a special place for me.
What originally made you want to own a hotel?
When was this space built and designed?
It was originally built in the 60's - named the "mini motel". The owner previous to us did some really great upgrades to decks etc so we had a really great framework to start from when we bought in 2017.
What is the inspiration behind the design of this space?
California cool meets Pacific Northwest cabin vibes. We kept a lot of the original design and modified it with modern updates and amenities.
How do you hope patrons feel upon entering the space?
We want to provide an inspiring but laid back feel. If you want the Ritz Carlton - don't stay here - but we are driven to provide guests with a memorable experience - whether they choose to hang in the suites all day and stare at the ocean or if they use it as a takeoff point for a day of adventures.
What makes this space a kind of home-away-from-home?
We wanted to keep the comforts of home top priority - comfy beds, great coffee, nice amenities while adding modern cool touches to curate a truly unique experience. We focused on little details - everything from Slowtide towels + blankets to a Crosby x Shoreline scent for our diffusers in every suite. We have everything you need - so you could really make them your home away from home for a while...
How are you dealing with the current Covid-19 pandemic?
Well, I am lucky enough to be living at The Shoreline (so trust me this is a really great home away from home) but I am doing a lot of surfing, yoga, beach walks, and cooking to balance out my days full of zoom calls and excel spreadsheets. I usually travel a lot so I am trying to enjoy these slow moments for what they are and feeling extra grateful for all my business partners, friends + family.
