Paradise found with Cassandra Lacroix
Location: Kihei, Maui

My name is Cassandra and I am 28 years old. I am a french canadian living in Quebec.  Photography started as a passion for me, capturing moments, people and exploring creativity. For the last 7 years I was working as a special care counsellor, taking care of people with special needs. Over time, I realized that my vision of the world had changed and that I needed to escape its madness. Photography was always something that I wanted to be more than just a hobby, but didn’t took the leap of faith to do it. One month ago, after many weeks of questioning myself, I decided to quit my job and jump into photography part time. Combining my love for photography with a professional pursuit feels like a natural next step. I still love helping people and I’m sure that I’ll be able to do good through my art.

I started photography around 14 years old. I’ve always been observant and curious of my environment, picking up on small details. It all started with my dad’s small camera; I borrowed it to play and snapped a few macro shots of my dogs, flowers, bugs in the backyard… At that age I knew I liked arts a lot, but photography felt different and I instantly fell in love with it. Since then, I've been exploring different techniques and subjects, always looking for that next perfect shot. I played with film photography in high school but to this day even if I love the feel of a analog shot, I shoot with a digital camera.

The things I enjoy shooting the most are people, live music and any sceneries that feel organic to the eye.

The camera I use is a Nikon D750 and my favourite lenses are the 35mm f.1/8 and 24-70mm f.2/8.

Living in a part of the world where the ocean isn't easily accessible, I would say that paradise for me is any small coastal town. The ocean is where I feel most at peace; the sound of waves, the salty breeze, and the vast horizon all create a sense of calm and tranquility. It's my favorite place to relax and recharge. One of my dream would be to move somewhere by the sea and be able to get up in the morning and go surfing.
