She is a graphic designer, owns her own company, Lucky We Live Hawai’i, and is part business owner of Aloha Xchng, avid surfer & excellent at home barista. Ashley and her husband, Bryce, live on the island of Kauai, Hawai’i and invited us to step into their home, have some coffee & take in that island breeze and their lush backyard. How long have you called this space home?
We have lived in this space since 2018, which is about 4 years now and I absolutely love it!
What makes this space distinctly yours?
I think what makes our space unique is probably a lot of our art and decor around the house. Most of it was collected from our travels, art pieces gifted from friends, and photography captured by my husband Bryce. Most items have a story behind them, which makes our space really fun and eclectic!
Where do you find your design inspiration?
Over the years I have been really trying to figure out my personal style when it comes to interior design. I think what I'm finding that inspires me the most is a mixture of art, surf culture, hawaii, fun prints/patterns, and pops of color.
What’s your favorite thing about your neighborhood or community?
We live in a small town called Omao, which is the cutest area! It's super lush and tropical and the best part is that it's like a 5 minute drive away from the beach! But our Kauai community is so great, it's such a small island, that most of our friends and family live within 10-20 minutes away from each other.
After a long day, what is your routine at home?
We pretty much do the same thing most evenings. Our usual routine consists of getting outside for an afternoon walk with our pup Sammie, watching the sunset, going home to make some dinner, and then unwind on the couch with either a show or movie to end the day.
If you had to live somewhere else where would it be!
Probably Australia
What’s a home essential you can’t live without?
My espresso machine
If someone comes to your house what is your favorite part of hosting?
First thing we always like doing is creating the right mood for the night by picking out the right music and playlist for the overall vibe (This might be more of Bryce's thing - but we both love it). Also, lately we have been getting really into making craft cocktails! That has been kind of our signature thing at the moment. It's been really fun!
How is your business reflected in your home?
Myself being a graphic designer and Bryce being a photographer...you can really see how that is displayed into aspects of our home. Obviously we have a lot of Bryce's images from our favorite places...and for myself, as someone who enjoys art - there is a lot of it! It's safe to say we definitely have more art up on our walls than we do photos of ourselves or people, haha! But I kind of like it that way.
What makes home ‘home’ for you?
Being happy and content with where you're at in life! Surrounded by good people, community and family. Hawaii will always be home for us.
