Founded in 1958, Snow Peak is a Japanese camping brand that makes heirloom-quality gear and apparel. We believe camping allows us to slow down, connect with others, and rekindle a closeness with nature.
"Snow Peak's ethos is rooted in the Japanese concept of kacho fugetsu, or way of life with nature. The Long Beach Campfield offers a reimagined approach to camping, centered on connection with others and a closeness with the natural world."
- Tohru Yamai, Snow Peak CEO and Executive Chairman
When was this space built and designed?
We officially broke ground at the Long Beach site in 2021, but the project had already been in the works for several years as we searched for the right location. We worked with a number of local partners to bring the 25-acre campsite to life. We opened the site in early spring and celebrated our Grand Opening at the end of June.

What is the inspiration behind the design of this space?
The site was heavily inspired by Snow Peak’s design ethos and its existing campfields across Japan and Korea. We took inspiration from the open field campground concepts commonly found in Japan, while also creating more private sites nestled into the trees. Our architectural partners, EFA Architect, are local to the peninsula and infused their decades of experience living in the region into the project. Structures were inspired by a pavilion shape, bringing the outdoors in with large windows. The rooflines were modeled after the silhouette of Snow Peak tarps and intended to blend with the surrounding landscape. Each building is clad in dark, shou sugi ban Japanese cypress, contrasted with natural wood interiors and exposed beams.

How do you hope patrons feel upon entering your space?
The ultimate goal of the Long Beach Campfield is a reimagined camping experience that centers on comfort and connection with nature. We view the campsite as the destination, an escape from the hectic world we share. We hope campers feel a sense of peace and rejuvenation from their stay. We’ve also modeled the site to inspire moments of community, and we hope guests can connect not only with their surroundings but also with one another.

What makes this space a kind of home-away-from-home?
We’ve always sought to bring the comfort of home to the campsite via our thoughtfully designed gear, be it a spacious tent, easy lounge chair or plush sleeping bag. Our approach to the Long Beach Campfield is no different. We prioritized homey comforts at every turn: an assortment of offerings at the Campstore, cozy communal spaces to gather regardless of weather, and spotless private bathrooms with ample hot water. Our Jyubako and Tent Suite accommodations offer a turnkey experience for guests who wish to remove the barrier of setup and immerse themselves in the natural world with little effort. All in all, we believe a comfortable experience allows campers to relax and fully connect with the rhythms of nature.
